For HD, it's 2k diffusemap, 2k normal map, 1k specular map. For high res DLC, it's 1k diffusemap, 1k normal map, 1k specular map. Here are the sizes:įor vanilla, it's 1k diffusemap, 1k normal map, 512 specular map. They must match in size or otherwise you will get a brown face. You can't mix different size diffuse, normal and specular maps between your face and face detail textures. It's a bug since it wasn't a problem in Skyrim, but it is a problem in Fallout 4. You are just not going to get down to the let-me-zoom-in-and-see-every-pore-on-my-characters-face level.
Now with that being said, you can still get some very good looking characters in Fallout 4. In Fallout 4, almost everything is 1k with one option being 2k.
In Skyrim, you could use 1k, 2k, 4k or 8k (if your PC could handle it) skin and face textures. Fallout has about three or four and maybe five. Where in Skyrim we had about a dozen different and very good skin designers.
